Simon STÅLENHAG Is a Swedish artist who creates illustrations off the local landscape, which he combines with science fiction artwork to create retro futuristic scenes that can seem like something from a dystopian future.

STÅLENHAG uses digital medium along with techniques let's allow him to create work that resembles an oil painting.

He was inspired by the rural environments of  Stockholm, which is where he grew up.

I decided to look at STAlenhag because he creates futuristic scenes that show how the world could look now if some of these old ideas were put in place. He does this through the use of digital medium which I feel, will be applicable to the way I work and will allow me to use him as inspiration for pieces I do later down the line .

As one of my responses to Simon STÅLENHAG’s

work I decided to digitally manipulate one of his pieces of work and remove the element that makes it seem futuristic and out of the ordinary, which is in this case the three towers that can be seen in the background.

I then decided to create these three towers using digital 3D software 2 then return to his what work in order to see if the original style could be matched and to explore the use of lighting and shadow to create atmosphere.

I found that have through the use of digital 3D medium it is impossible to create the same effect that can be seen through painted images as the effect of atmosphere  and vibrance can be difficult to achieve as in 3D design realistic lighting is usually used which makes the 3D elements seem out of place which can be seen above later I may experiment with creating a 3D design and then importing it into a photo as a base to use to paint and edit to attempt to create a finished outcome.
