ARCHITECTURAL MODELS

I first created a model out of corrugated cardboard as it provided a quick and easy method for forming shapes that are still precise and accurate which therefore allowed me to create a quick mock up of the design I would later create. I also decided to test the lighting within the cardboard model in an attempt to determine how bright all the lights would have to be to light up the various rooms without being harsh or crude.

the first working model i created was simply to test the use of plaster as the material to create the walls as concrete would have taken too long to set and would not have been the best material for the scale and size i would be using. As the material being used For the base was not being experimented with I used a polystyrene sheet as it can be easily cut and scored and channels can easily be made in order to secure the material that was used to form the walls.

One of the main Flaws of this model was the use of polystyrene for the Base. Its lack of rigidity and structure caused the walls to bow and bend while casting which caused the entire structure to appear wonky.

Also the mix of pearlite and paint that give the walls its colour and texture caused the plaster to thicken and set faster than usual which created empty spaces mainly surrounding the "rebar" structure inside causing it to fracture down the wall
